Colombian golfer María José Marín claimed the title of Women’s Amateur Latin America (WALA) 2025 after a dramatic playoff against Barbadian Emily Odwin. Marín secured the victory on the challenging PGA Riviera Maya course, located at Tulum Country Club. The course is renowned for its high level of difficulty and has historically decided tournaments in playoffs. The tournament, organized by The R&A and the ANNIKA Foundation, was held in Mexico for the first time in its history and ended in a tie after the regulation 72 holes. Marín and Odwin played the 18th hole twice without breaking the tie, forcing a sudden-death playoff on the 10th hole. Ultimately, Marín made a solid par, while Odwin recorded a six, defining a high-drama finish that kept the suspense alive until the final putt. This victory marks one of the most significant achievements of Marín's amateur career, positioning her as one of the leading figures in Latin American golf. Gonzalo Pan de Soraluce, Global Head of Golf Strategy, highlighted the exceptional week and the impeccable condition of the course. Mark Lawrie, Director of The R&A, also praised the quality of the venue.
