Armed Attack on Judicial Workers in Tuxtla Gutiérrez

Alleged elements of the Attorney General's Office of the State of Chiapas attacked a truck in which judges and judicial officials were traveling to a charitable event in Tuxtla Gutiérrez. The workers, belonging to the organization 32 Unified Circuits of the Judiciary of the Federation, had planned to deliver groceries and food at the Gómez Maza Civil Hospital when they were assaulted. According to the police, they were mistaken for others and none were detained.

The Mexican Association of Female Judges and the Association of Workers of the PJF condemned the armed attack against the judicial workers, stating that it is unacceptable for law enforcement to carry out attacks without following legal and security procedures. Both associations expressed concern for the safety of their colleagues and called on the authorities to ensure the proper use of public force and not to abuse weapons indiscriminately.

The National Association of Circuit Magistrates and District Judges (Jufed) also condemned the aggression, urging authorities to clarify the facts and sanction those responsible. They expressed concern over the hostile climate against the Judiciary of the Federation and called to halt the polarization that could jeopardize the safety of workers and judges.

The Attorney General's Office of the State of Chiapas announced the start of investigations into the attack. The Internal Control Body of the FGE and the Metropolitan District Attorney's Office initiated an Investigation Folder to clarify the facts and establish responsibilities. The institution committed to not allowing impunity in cases that undermine the Rule of Law and the integrity of citizens.
