Arrest of Sinaloa Cartel Leader in Chiapas

Authorities continue to work to curb violence and drug trafficking in Chiapas and other areas of the country where the Sinaloa Cartel has influence. On Tuesday, November 12, the Secretary of Public Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, reported the detention of Jesús Esteban “N”, alias “El Güero Pulseras”, allegedly linked to Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, one of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel.

This arrest is part of a joint operation carried out by the Secretary of the Navy, the Mexican Army, and the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection in the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, a state that has witnessed a considerable increase in violence. Jesús Esteban “N”, known as “El Güero Pulseras”, is pointed out as one of the main operators of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada in Chiapas, where he is said to have played a key role in the organization and coordination of the criminal activities of the Sinaloa Cartel in the region.

Chiapas has seen an increase in the presence of organized crime groups due to its strategic location for drug trafficking and its proximity to the border with Central America, a key point in drug trafficking to the United States.

The capture of “El Güero Pulseras” is part of coordinated efforts between federal and state forces to dismantle the operations of the Sinaloa Cartel, particularly following the detention of its leader, “El Mayo”, in July of this year in El Paso, Texas. After Zambada's capture, pressure has intensified on cartel members, leading to the downfall of several of its high-ranking operators, including “El Güero Pulseras”.

This series of arrests aims to dismantle the drug trafficking network operating in various regions of the country, including Chiapas, which has seen an escalation of violence related to the dispute over control of key territories for drug trafficking. The detention of Jesús Esteban “N” adds to the recent actions of security forces in their fight against organized crime and represents another step in the dismantling of one of the main criminal organizations in the country.
