Brenda Montañez, Mayor's Wife, Released by Kidnappers

Brenda Montañez, wife of the mayor of Villa Hidalgo, Jalisco, was released by her kidnappers after they realized her identity. Montañez recounted that initially the kidnappers were interested in her husband's son, Jaime Cruz, who had been kidnapped hours earlier. Upon encountering her and the child, who were together in a truck, the kidnappers got confused and thought the child was the mayor's son.

In statements to a news program, Brenda Montañez explained that the kidnappers arrived with the intention of taking the mayor's son, but upon seeing the child accompanying the president of the DIF of the municipality, they decided to change their target. In light of this situation, Montañez voluntarily got into the vehicle with the minor and confirmed that the kidnappers never threatened her nor had any intention of kidnapping her.

Montañez recounted that upon realizing who she was, the kidnappers changed their attitude and assured her that they would only interrogate her. During her captivity, Montañez stated that her captors treated her well, caring about her well-being and needs.

The mayor's wife mentioned that everything started due to a rumor about alleged money laundering by her husband, which triggered the search and her subsequent kidnapping. However, after investigating, the kidnappers discovered that she and her husband had no connection to illicit activities.

Finally, Brenda Montañez detailed that the incident began when some neighbors lent her and the child a truck, as they did not have their own vehicle. This led to their interception by the kidnappers who, upon discovering her identity, decided to release her.
