France Praises Mexican President During Trade Crisis

Delphine Borione, the French ambassador to Mexico, praised the "cold head" of President Claudia Sheinbaum during the tariff crisis with Donald Trump. Borione highlighted that the relationship between France and Mexico goes beyond commercial interests, based on a shared vision against unilateral policies. During her visit to Xalapa, Veracruz, the ambassador emphasized the importance of exchange between the two countries and the collaboration of governments to benefit the population.

In this regard, Borione mentioned that the French government has a feminist vision, which aligns with the one adopted by Mexico since Andrés Manuel López Obrador took office in 2019. The ambassador praised Claudia Sheinbaum, highlighting her attitude during the crisis and stating: "we greatly admire the president's attitude, with her cold head."

The ambassador also emphasized France's openness towards all parties, including the United States, while maintaining firmness in its principles and values for an open world. Since Donald Trump’s presidency, Sheinbaum has maintained a serene stance in the face of American threats and tariffs. In situations like the imposition of a 25% tariff, Sheinbaum chose to wait and negotiate with the Trump administration to reach mutually beneficial agreements.

In response to comments and threats, Sheinbaum has preferred to maintain moderate comments, requesting respect for Mexico and rejecting any subordination. Despite the tensions and threats, Donald Trump has praised Sheinbaum on several occasions, acknowledging her work and highlighting the campaign against fentanyl in Mexico. This recognition has been manifested in gestures of approval towards Mexico's stance on synthetic drug consumption in the United States.
