Discovery of Skeletons in Xochitepec Raises Alarm

In the Magical Town of Xochitepec, Morelos, four skeletons were found in a clandestine grave on Thursday, as confirmed by personnel from the Attorney General's Office of the State of Morelos. The discovery occurred after receiving an anonymous report alerting about clandestine burials in the Loma Bonita neighborhood of the municipality of Xochitepec.

In response to this information, an operation was carried out in which members of the Search Commission for Missing Persons of the State of Morelos (CBPEM) participated. After several hours of work that extended into Thursday, the four skeletons were found in the last corners of the mentioned neighborhood.

During the search operation, municipal police authorities, the Secretary of Citizen Protection of the State of Morelos, as well as members of the Mexican Army and the National Guard, who were in charge of securing the work area, also collaborated. After the discovery, the Attorney General's Office of Morelos was informed, which is awaiting a court order to allow forensic experts and the Public Ministry to enter the property, which is privately owned.

Xochitepec is part of the metropolitan area of Morelos, located to the west of the entity. In recent years, the municipality has been the scene of several discoveries of clandestine graves, evidencing an increase in intentional homicides and violence in the region. In 2024, 71 murders were recorded, according to data from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System.

Last November, another grave was found in Loma Bonita with at least three bodies, as well as another clandestine grave in October with the same number of victims. Since the beginning of the government of Margarita González Saravia, a total of 10 bodies buried clandestinely in Xochitepec have been counted. As of October of last year, the Search Commission for Missing Persons of the State of Morelos reported that more than 2,000 people officially missing had still not been located.
