At a press conference, the presentation of the Fifteenth edition of the Day of the Dead Festival in Zapotlanejo, Jalisco, was held, which will take place from October 30 to November 17. This year, as part of the festival attractions, a monumental Catrina will be built to symbolize the eternal love of family. The sculpture will stand 22 meters tall and will be constructed with a 5.7-ton steel structure to ensure its stability.
The new sculpture is a continuation of the work presented in 2019, which represented a Catrina dressed as a bride with a Catrín kneeling in front of her in a marriage proposal gesture. On this occasion, in addition to the couple, the figure of a baby in a stroller will be included. Additionally, there will be 21 skulls 1.20 meters tall decorated with artistic murals, six Catrina nuns dressed in viceroyal attire on a 200-square-meter traditional rug, and seven scenic sets representing famous families from the entertainment industry.
"Personally, I feel very emotional about this event that remembers those who have passed away, a tribute to Héctor Álvarez," expressed Patricia Sánchez, the municipal president of Zapotlanejo, in tears, remembering her recently deceased husband, who was the mayor of the locality. For the preparation of this event, 200 people have been working for six and a half months.
An attendance of around 70,000 people is expected, who will have the opportunity to contribute to the economic spillover of the municipality recognized as the fashion capital of the region, with more than 1,100 clothing stores. Visitors will also be able to enjoy local gastronomy, which includes dishes such as tostadas raspadas and birria.
