The alleged murderer of the federal deputy from Veracruz, Benito Aguas Atlahua, was arrested and linked to the process after the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) provided the necessary evidence for the judge to determine that he faces legal proceedings. The man has been identified as Guillermo 'Q', who is accused of the crimes of qualified homicide against two people and qualified injuries inflicted upon another.
"According to the investigation file, in December 2024, Guillermo 'Q' was riding a motorcycle from which he shot at several people who were attending a family gathering in the locality of Tepenacaxtla, in Zongolica, resulting in the death of two individuals, one of whom was a federal official, and injuries to another."
The Federal Ministerial Police (PFM) was responsible for the man's arrest, and the MPF collected sufficient evidence to obtain the linking to the process, in addition to which the judge established preventive detention at the Social Reintegration Center in Pacho Viejo and three months of supplementary investigation.
The attack against Aguas Atlahua occurred on December 9; although he was taken alive to a hospital, he died due to the severity of his injuries, although it was published on his social media that he suffered an 'accident.'
"The federal deputy for district 18 of Zongolica, Veracruz, suffered an accident in Tepenacaxtla, for which he has been transferred to the hospital. We appreciate your support and unity in prayer for his quick recovery."
Benito Aguas arrived at the Chamber of Deputies from the Green Party by relative majority, meaning he campaigned and obtained the majority of votes; he was also the mayor of Zongolica from 2017 until 2024. His curriculum in the Chamber of Deputies highlights his participation as a speaker at several forums, some related to indigenous communities. At this time, his family is waiting for the medical report.
