BAT Mexico Suspends Vape Products After Reform

In compliance with the recent constitutional reform banning electronic cigarettes, vaporizers, and similar electronic devices in Mexico, BAT Mexico has announced the commercial suspension of its vaping products throughout the country. The company, which employs over 2,300 people in Mexico, has decided to comply with the measure despite disagreeing with the prohibition imposed by the authorities.

The company, recognized for its investment and contributions to the Mexican economy, expresses its concern that this prohibition could lead to the growth of the illegal market for low-quality vaporizers and electronic cigarettes. This market, lacking safety controls and regulations, poses a danger to consumers, especially as there are no restrictions on sales to minors and the tax evasion that could lead to million-dollar losses for the country.

Despite the suspension of its products in the Mexican market, BAT Mexico maintains its position that certified vaporizers and electronic cigarettes are a less harmful alternative compared to traditional cigarettes.

In its defense, the company cites extensive scientific evidence from international health institutes and mentions the example of countries like the United Kingdom, Sweden, and Canada, where these products are part of public policies designed to reduce smoking and its adverse effects.

BAT Mexico expresses hope that the prohibition will be temporary and that, in the future, conditions can be established for appropriate regulation to allow the legal sale of these products in the country, benefiting both public health and the Mexican economy.
