
Labor occupation in Mexico experienced an increase at the end of last year, after a period when the unemployment rate had reached 3 percent in the third quarter of 2024. According to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), in December 2024, 34.7 million people were employed in the country, representing an increase of 10.1 million workers compared to November of the same year.
Regarding labor informality, 31.8 million people were recorded in this condition, which implied a decrease in the informality rate (53.3 percent in December 2024 compared to 54.2 percent in November). The female employed population reached 24.6 million, with an annual increase of 340 thousand, while the male population was 34.7 million, experiencing a decrease of 165 thousand workers.
The majority of workers were concentrated in the services sector, with more than 26.7 million people employed, followed by commerce with 11.5 million, manufacturing industry with 9.7 million, agricultural activities with 5.9 million, and construction with 4.7 million.
As for the economically active population (EAP), this was 60.8 million people aged 15 and older in the last month of 2024, with a participation rate of 59.3 percent. The unemployment rate decreased to 2.4 percent, down from 2.6 percent recorded in the same period of the previous year.
