On Saturday, February 1, the threat from Donald Trump to increase tariffs to 25 percent on Mexico will become a reality. In light of this news, Idelfonso Guajardo has stated that the country "will have no choice." In this context, former president Vicente Fox told the media that the tariff increase is a consequence of the decisions made.

"I was with the president in the Oval Office, and I can confirm that tomorrow, President Trump will impose a 25 percent tariff on Mexico," Fox stated in a declaration to reporters, also mentioning tariffs on Canada and China.

For her part, President Claudia Sheinbaum communicated that they have three plans for this situation. "We have plan A, plan B, and plan C for whatever the government of the United States decides," she assured during her morning conference on Friday, January 31. She emphasized that they will always defend the dignity and sovereignty of the country.

Trump has justified his decision to impose tariffs by considering that the administrations of Sheinbaum and Trudeau have failed to reduce the trafficking of fentanyl and undocumented migrants to the U.S. The uncertainty generated by these threats has kept markets and business leaders on alert.

Former president Fox, critical of the previous security strategy, acknowledged Sheinbaum's response to U.S. pressure on the issue. He underscored the importance of listening to the demands for peace and tranquility from the citizens.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed that the 25 percent tariffs on Mexico and Canada will be applied on February 1, refuting earlier reports suggesting a possible postponement until March.
