The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, expressed her willingness to negotiate the 25% tariffs imposed by her US counterpart, Donald Trump, on products of Mexican origin. In a message shared through social media, Sheinbaum proposed a negotiation table without subordination, emphasizing the importance of dialogue to resolve conflicts.

In her statements, the Mexican leader also pointed out that the vast majority of the weapons used by Mexican cartels come from the United States, representing a challenge for both countries in the fight against organized crime. She also stressed that tariffs are not the solution to the fentanyl problem, urging for a comprehensive approach to the illegal sale of this and other drugs on American soil.

Sheinbaum recalled that US authorities have acknowledged that a significant percentage of the weapons used by organized crime in Mexico come illegally from their country, reaching 74% of this type of armament. This call for attention aims to highlight the shared responsibility in border security and the fight against illegal arms trafficking.

Regarding the tariffs imposed by Trump on February 1, Sheinbaum warned that this measure would affect not only Mexico but also the US economy, significantly raising the costs of products exported from Mexico to its territory. The Mexican president emphasized the importance of finding solutions that benefit both nations and avoid escalating trade tensions in the region.
