Mexico Prepares Comprehensive Economic Proposal for US

The Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, called for a comprehensive analysis of the productive sectors of the country in order to structure an integral proposal that will be presented to the President of the United States, Donald Trump, within a month. In a meeting held at the National Palace, Ebrard highlighted that the goal is to consolidate a strategy that strengthens Mexico's position in the bilateral trade relationship.

"President Claudia Sheinbaum managed to avoid the imposition of immediate tariffs by Washington, as there was a 90 percent chance of waking up to tariffs and only a 10 percent chance of opening negotiations," Ebrard pointed out. He also emphasized the urgency of taking advantage of the window of opportunity opened by the president and stressed that the negotiation approach with Trump's team will be much more detailed and structured than in previous occasions.

Ebrard explained that once the authorities with which they will dialogue are ratified, they will invite sector-by-sector, detailed work, aiming to persuade and convince the U.S. counterpart about Mexico's strategic importance in the North American supply chain. The deadline for this analysis is within the 30-day tariff truce, a period that, according to Ebrard, demands speed and coordination.

In this regard, the Sheinbaum government will launch the campaign "Made in Mexico" as part of a strategy to strengthen the country's productive identity. Marcelo Ebrard announced that President Sheinbaum's instruction is to start a relaunch of the national program on March 3. "Someone might say, 'How important can it be?' Well, it is the most important because that is the foundation, our national pride," the secretary stated.
