During the morning conference at the National Palace, Iván Escalante, head of Profeco, presented an analysis of the egg price behavior in Mexico. The average price of a package of 18 pieces was $54.05 pesos in the first week of February 2025, with a slight decrease of 19 cents (-0.35%) compared to the previous month.
Some brands increased their prices, such as Aurrerá which went from $47.06 to $49.71 pesos (+5.6%), while others like El Calvario reduced their cost by 4.7%, from $57.59 to $54.87 pesos. San Juan and Bachoco also reflected price drops.
Iván Escalante warned about the lack of price tags on egg shelves in some commercial establishments, making it difficult for consumers to know the cost of the product before checking out.
Profeco indicated that a good selection of purchases in the basic basket can result in savings of up to $328 pesos, and reminded that the average price of a kilo of tortillas remains at $23 pesos nationwide. They recommended that citizens identify the most economical points of sale and consult the program "Who is Who in Prices".
The government of Claudia Sheinbaum is reinforcing transparency in the marketing of essential products and preventing abuses in basic food prices. Profeco will continue with verification operations in supermarkets and self-service stores to ensure prices are displayed and established amounts are respected.
In addition to price monitoring, Profeco recommended that consumers compare prices at different establishments to generate significant savings.
