Some Mexicans express concerns about a possible collapse of the country through Whatsapp. While memes and pessimistic texts circulate, the Argentine company Mercadolibre stands out by turning Mexico into its second-best global market, after Brazil.

Last year, Mercadolibre recorded net revenues of 4.664 billion dollars in Mexico. The company invested in logistics infrastructure in the country, opening new distribution centers in Villa de Tezontepec, Hidalgo, and Tultepec, State of Mexico, which allowed for greater expansion of free shipping and attracted a large number of new buyers.

Ariel Szarfsztejn, president of commerce at Mercadolibre, highlighted that the low-cost product segment has grown significantly, thanks to an effective strategy. A novelty in the company's business is the introduction of a credit card, which has been well received in the Mexican market.

On the other hand, Walmart Mexico has also seen significant growth in its e-commerce business. The company experienced a 19.8% increase in its e-commerce sales last year, resulting in a 19% increase in investments directed towards renovations and omnichannel infrastructure, including new stores and distribution centers.

Despite the economic slowdown in Mexico, data from Inegi show a 22% annual growth in e-commerce, reaching a value of two trillion pesos, which represents more than 6% of the national GDP. This growth reflects the increase in the use of services on platforms and social networks.

In an uncertain economic landscape, it is crucial to analyze in detail the behavior of each sector. Despite the difficulties, companies like Mercadolibre and Walmart continue to invest in the Mexican market and make investments to strengthen their presence and improve their logistics infrastructure.
