Fifteen days ago, eight states in the country had gas prices below 24 pesos per liter. Currently, Zacatecas, Quintana Roo, and Baja California Sur are the entities with the highest average prices for regular gasoline, exceeding 24.8 pesos per liter.
In a press conference, Iván Escalante, the prosecutor of Profeco, reported that the national average price of gasoline is 24.08 pesos per liter, highlighting that nearly 50% of service stations already offer prices below 24 pesos. Profeco will publish a report with the prices at terminals and gas stations in accordance with the national agreement to stabilize prices.
Gabriel Rosas, operations director at Verifigas, mentioned that the profit margins of gas station entrepreneurs could be reduced by up to 30% due to the price cap of 24 pesos per liter. The distance of gas stations from storage terminals will affect those with higher transportation and distribution costs.
The voluntary agreement to set a maximum price of 24 pesos per liter for regular gasoline began on March 3 nationwide, observing a general decrease in prices since its announcement. Currently, 13 states sell green gasoline below this cap, while two entities are close to meeting this price.
Among the entities that already comply with the cap of 24 pesos per liter are Morelos, Mexico City, Hidalgo, the State of Mexico, and others. Despite 17 states maintaining prices above 24 pesos, none have surpassed 25 pesos per liter.
