Mexico Works to Avoid Tariffs from Trump

Mexico is taking measures to avoid or reduce the tariffs announced by Donald Trump, which pose a direct threat to its economy. There is fear of a severe recession if these tariffs are implemented. U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick mentioned that the White House could reach a 'middle ground' with Mexico in negotiations.

President Claudia Sheinbaum called for an event next Sunday in protest against the tariffs, while she also plans to have a conversation with Trump this Thursday in an attempt to reach a bilateral agreement. It has been reported that Mexicans and Canadians have been in communication with Trump to seek a fair and reasonable solution.

The Secretary of Commerce ruled out the possibility of a new pause on the confirmed tariffs, but suggested that the U.S. president could reconsider if both Mexico and Canada do more to resolve the situation. Sheinbaum was set to announce tariff measures against the United States on Sunday, but Lutnick's statements could change the course of negotiations. A possible announcement is expected the next day with an outcome that could be considered a middle ground.
