Concerns Over US Tariffs Impact on Nuevo León

The Coparmex of Nuevo León expressed its concern about the tariffs imposed by the United States on imports from Mexico and Canada. Despite the manufacturing diversification in the state, Cecilia Carrillo López, the director of the organization, pointed out that the 25 percent tariff would significantly affect Nuevo León's exporting industry.

The tariff would increase product costs, which could negatively impact local companies by losing customers. Although Nuevo León is recognized for its automotive industry, it is also a prominent exporter of electrical appliances and equipment, as well as machinery and equipment, with high demand in the United States, according to Carrillo López.

Concern is growing because Nuevo León is one of Mexico's main exporting states, and the tariff could have a more significant impact on the region than in other parts of the country. The imposition of tariffs represents a challenge for Nuevo León's manufacturing industry, which exports a variety of products such as transportation equipment, electrical devices, and machinery.

A Coparmex analysis, based on data from Inegi, shows that exports of transportation equipment have decreased compared to previous years, while exports of machinery and equipment, as well as electrical devices, have been increasing. In particular, the machinery and equipment sector has experienced significant growth in export value participation.

The value of exports of accessories, electrical devices, and electricity generation equipment has also increased, reflecting the diversification of manufactured exports in Nuevo León. The imposition of tariffs by the United States represents a challenge for Nuevo León's manufacturing industry, which seeks to maintain its position as an important exporter in the country.
