Mexico Sees Major Investments Amid Economic Growth

On Friday, March 7, the Government of Mexico, under the presidency of Claudia Sheinbaum, announced new investments of nearly 7 billion dollars. These investments come from the energy company Sempra Infrastructure and the e-commerce platform Mercado Libre. During the press conference, Marcelo Ebrard highlighted that investments in the country will continue, despite the government's efforts to strengthen the investment portfolio in recent months.

Tania Ortiz Mena, CEO of Sempra Infrastructure, revealed that the company plans to invest 3.55 billion dollars in Baja California. This investment aims to generate more than 18,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region. Among the projects is a natural gas liquefaction terminal and the construction of the fifth wind farm in Mexico.

Ortiz Mena praised the leadership of President Sheinbaum, especially during the recent tariff negotiations with the United States. She expressed Sempra's commitment to contributing to the government’s energy goals, such as accelerating the energy transition and strengthening energy security in the country.

On the other hand, David Geisen, CEO of Mercado Libre, announced an investment of 3.4 billion dollars in Mexico. The company seeks to strengthen its technological, logistical, and financial ecosystem, as well as create new jobs. Geisen highlighted that this investment represents a 38% growth compared to previous years and it is expected to create around 10,000 jobs.

These investments take place in a context where Mexico closed 2024 with a historic record in foreign direct investment, reflecting investor confidence. Despite the uncertainty generated by threats of tariffs from the United States, the government and companies continue to bet on the Mexican market and its growth potential.
