Resignation of Rogelio Ramírez de la O Amid Economic Tensions

Rogelio Ramírez de la O finalized his departure from the Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP) at a critical moment for the Mexican economy. The news was confirmed by government sources, although there has not yet been an official statement regarding it. Ramírez de la O met with President Claudia Sheinbaum at the National Palace to discuss his resignation.

Since the beginning of Sheinbaum's administration, there had been speculation about Ramírez de la O's departure due to tensions surrounding the judicial reform and the limitations on making key appointments in the government. Despite market uncertainties due to tariff threats and the economic slowdown in Mexico, the president had kept Ramírez de la O in his position.

The official's exit had been anticipated since November, after the presentation of this year's budget. The potential continuity of Ramírez de la O in Finance was compromised by his personal projects abroad, but political uncertainty in Mexico and the United States kept him in office. The resignation came after the pause in Mexican imports to the U.S. granted by Trump.

The conflict between Ramírez de la O and Claudia Sheinbaum and the tensions surrounding the judicial reform, which generated significant uncertainty, were the triggers for his resignation. Two names are being strongly mentioned to replace him: Edgar Amador, Undersecretary of Finance, and Luz Elena González, Head of Energy. Uncertainty persists in the financial and economic sphere regarding the future challenges facing Mexico.
