
Mexican consumers appeared pessimistic according to the National Consumer Confidence Survey conducted by Inegi. According to the results, an increase in unemployment, a rise in prices, and fewer economic opportunities for vacationing are expected in the coming months.
The level of confidence in the national economy fell by 0.8 points at the end of February 2025. Consumers believe that the current economic situation of the country is less favorable than the previous year and also foresee a deterioration in the next 12 months.
Regarding the possibility of acquiring goods such as furniture, televisions, washing machines, and other household appliances, a decrease of 1 point was registered in February of this year. Additionally, the economic opportunities of households to purchase basic products such as clothing, shoes, and food decreased by 0.6 points in annual terms.
The outlook also indicates that the ability of Mexicans to afford a vacation in the next 12 months has decreased by 1.8 units between February 2024 and February 2025.
Regarding employment, consumer perception of the labor situation in the country in the next 12 months has dropped by 2.8 points, suggesting a higher short-term unemployment rate. Concerning prices, the confidence of Mexicans in how they will behave in the next 12 months has declined by 1.1 units, anticipating greater probabilities of inflation.
Despite this discouraging outlook, a significant increase of 2.5 points in the current saving possibilities of household members is observed. However, when measuring the likelihood of maintaining this financial habit throughout the year, a decrease of 0.1 points was recorded.
