During the 88th Banking Convention, the CEO of Banamex, Manuel Romo, highlighted that the banking institution will focus on increasing its credit portfolio and modernizing its technology, following a separation process that went unnoticed by more than 20 million customers. Romo emphasized three key objectives for Banamex: greater closeness with customers, digitalization, and a special focus on the young segment of the population.
Regarding the strategy to reach a younger audience, Banamex has consolidated its position as the "entertainment bank" by offering exclusive benefits for concerts and musical events. It is estimated that the banking entity sponsors around 450 festivals and events throughout Mexico, giving it a significant competitive advantage.
In light of the volatility in the markets, Romo mentioned that they remain attentive to potential impacts on certain segments, while the outlook for Banamex's credit portfolios appears very favorable. The bank is well-capitalized and liquid, enabling it to continue investing in technology, controls, and fraud prevention to maintain its position as a solid and reliable institution.
Additionally, Banamex plans to return to the corporate banking segment after its IPO towards the end of the current year or in 2026, as part of Citi's divestiture process. Following the successful separation of both institutions in December 2024, Banamex will continue to strengthen its market position with the support of its partner Ocesa, thus ensuring its presence as an integral component of the entity.
