In January 2025, Nuevo León experienced a 12.1% year-on-year increase in the volume of diesel sold, reaching 73.1 million liters, according to data from the Secretariat of Energy. This increase positioned Nuevo León as the fourth state with the highest growth nationally for the mentioned month. It is the first time that the entity has reached this level of sales in January since the fuel market opened in 2017. Previously, its best position was in January 2024, when it ranked fourth. In contrast, in 2018 and 2020, it recorded the lowest levels, at tenth place.
Compared to other entities, only Veracruz and Yucatán surpassed Nuevo León in diesel consumption, with 132 and 87.5 million liters respectively in January. However, both states showed year-on-year declines of 17.9% and 4.8%. Only Chihuahua and Nuevo León recorded an increase in diesel consumption during the first month of the year.
This increase in diesel consumption in Nuevo León is attributed to its industrial focus and export vocation. The entity is recognized for its high industrial production and manufacturing exports, which drives the use of vehicles that depend on diesel for mobility. In the fourth quarter of 2024, Nuevo León exported manufacturing products worth 15 billion 157 million dollars, positioning it as the third state with the highest exports in the country.
In terms of economic growth, Nuevo León experienced a 2.3% increase in 2024, surpassing the national average of 1.5%. For this year, a growth of 0.2% is projected, in contrast to the stability recorded nationally.
