Farmers and Transporters Block Roads in Mexico

Farmers and transporters across the country continue to block roads, demanding solutions from the government to their pressing issues. They claim that the dialogue with authorities does not offer concrete solutions to their demands. Their main requests include improved road safety, solutions for producers and operators, fair prices for the agricultural sector, and modifications to the Water Law promoted by President Claudia Sheinbaum. Protest leaders have stated they are open to dialogue regarding the Water and Agricultural laws, as well as security, questioning the need for road blockades if talks are ongoing. The government, however, insists that dialogue is open and urges protesters to clear the roads to allow for negotiations. The first round of talks between government officials and the unions representing protesting transporters and farmers failed to reach an agreement at the Ministry of the Interior. Consequently, the blockades are set to continue, as the protesters emphasize their movement is non-partisan and their sole goal is to rescue national agriculture.
