Mexico, Buenos Aires — In a context where electric vehicles are growing at a staggering pace worldwide, a global user of a Chinese brand sold in Argentina reported malfunctions in an SUV purchased 7 months ago and denounced that the agency in charge of following up on his case is failing to resolve the vehicle's mechanical failure.
The author of the complaint is Erik S., who sent an explanation of his problem, along with a video of the SUV, to the Mexican podcast Autoboutique ¼ de Milla, which specializes in covering the automotive sector in the Aztec country.
According to information received by the Argentine News Agency, the problem is that the trunk—or 'cajuela' as it is called in Mexico—of the purchased BYD Sealion 7 EV does not close at times, which generates many complications for the user when he has to travel.
"The reason for my email is to ask for your support to expose my case regarding the cash purchase of the BYD Sealion 7 SUV, which presented some problems a month after acquiring it and currently one persists, which is the opening of the trunk. I have been dealing with the trunk not opening on occasion for over 7 months. The SUV has been to the workshop more than 8 times without them being able to solve the problem. Currently, they have no date for a solution," explained Erik S.

"I have just hired a lawyer since, according to the sales contract, some clauses have been breached and this is a reason to terminate the contract. I am no longer interested in them repairing the SUV because I do not trust their vehicles, the agency, or the brand. I requested that they send me by email what they plan to do, but to date they have not sent an email nor contacted me".

It admits fast charging in direct current, which allows it to recover a good part of the battery in a little over 30 minutes, designed for both urban use and long trips.
In terms of equipment, it stands out for a technological and modern interior: a large rotating central screen, a digital dashboard, complete connectivity, and a package of driving assistance systems (ADAS) that includes automatic emergency braking, lane keeping, and adaptive cruise control.
Additionally, I have a second hearing with Profeco on January 13th".
How is the BYD Sealion 7, the protagonist of the problem
The BYD Sealion 7 is a 100% electric mid-size SUV that relies on the brand's e-Platform 3.0 and uses the renowned Blade Battery.
It is important to highlight that this model is not sold in Argentina, where the offering consists of the Dolphin Mini, Yuan Pro, and Song PRO DM-i.
In terms of autonomy, the BYD Sealion 7 allows for a range of between 480 and 550 kilometers on a single charge (WLTP cycle), thanks to large-capacity batteries and efficient energy management.

And he continued: "I am attaching the (Sealion Report) made by the BYD Mexico expert, which says that the problem is resolved, which is not true and this leads me to understand that the BYD Azcapotzalco agency and the BYD Mexico expert do not have the sufficient knowledge to solve the problem. I do not want to think how long it would take if a problem with the battery arises, for that reason I would like to share my experience so that people consider if they want to take the risk of buying a BYD vehicle that may fail and unfortunately not be fixed. Also, I have realized that when I post on social networks or send them the contract termination requests is when the agency contacts me to continue pretending they are reviewing my case".
Lawyers and possible contract termination
To conclude, Erik S. commented that he had to take his case to litigation and highlighted: "The agency asked me for the SUV last week, when I asked what they were going to do with it, they told me they did not know what they would ask the BYD Mexico expert, for that reason I did not take it. According to the version, it offers rear or all-wheel drive, with one or two electric motors, and a power that can exceed 500 HP in the most performance-oriented variants.
