Grupo Salinas has stated that it is in dialogue regarding the tax benefits it may be eligible for and anticipates a resolution this week. The SAT (Tax Administration Service) set a deadline of January 23 for the businessman to verify the payment of his debt, corresponding to fiscal years from 2008 to 2015, amounting to around 48 billion pesos, in order to access a discount of up to 39%, as established by law. Grupo Salinas has filed a complaint with the IACHR (Inter-American Commission on Human Rights) alleging alleged persecution by the Executive Branch. This decision came after the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) ruled that the previous amparo was not valid and returned the last ruling of the courts that ordered the payment of taxes to the treasury. In response, the SAT proposed some benefits, and they are evaluating whether they can meet them. Just as the deadline set by the tax authorities was about to expire, Ricardo Salinas Pliego's team presented itself at the SAT facilities to confirm the payment of Grupo Salinas' debt, thus opening the door to agreeing on its fulfillment. This was confirmed by President Claudia Sheinbaum during her morning press conference this Monday: 'They appeared at the SAT on Thursday, stating their desire to pay,' she said. And we are waiting for a resolution to be reached this week. When asked if a procedure had already been established in case the magnate ultimately decided not to pay, the president affirmed that it had, but that it would be reported in the event that scenario were to occur.
