The director of Mexican state oil company Pemex clarified the situation with crude oil shipments to Cuba. He stated that there is only one open contract between Pemex and the Cuban government, with transactions last year amounting to $496 billion. This deal, which included crude oil and petroleum products, represented less than 1% of Pemex's total production. The director also emphasized that the Cuban government does pay for these shipments. 'Of course they pay for it. We have a commercial relationship, what do you think?' he stated firmly. He added that at some point, oil was sold as humanitarian aid, but in very small quantities. 'It's really very little, and we do it for humanitarian and commercial reasons,' he explained. Meanwhile, President Claudia Sheinbaum mentioned they are still evaluating aid to Cuba in light of a new tariff threat from Donald Trump against countries selling oil to the Caribbean island.
