The Querétaro municipality has reported an increase in business openings. According to the Secretary of Economic Development, Alejandro Sterling, 649 new businesses were opened in the capital during the first two months of 2026, marking a 6% increase compared to the same period in 2025 (610 openings). Concurrently, business closures decreased by 28%, dropping from 379 to 272. This indicates a positive economic trend. Sterling Sánchez highlighted the reduction in closures as a significant achievement. «We are closing fewer businesses and opening 6% more than last year,» he stated. In total, 15,100 businesses have registered or renewed their permits this year. The official also noted that the total number of registered commercial units has reached 29,245, a 52% increase. The goal for 2026 is to match or surpass the 2025 figure of 29,245 registered businesses. To legalize their operations, businesses must register by the June 30 deadline. The cost of the registration plaque varies, from 299 pesos annually for low-risk businesses to 5,865 pesos for those selling or storing alcoholic beverages, with discounts available for seniors. The only price increase was for the industrial operating license, which is now fixed at 89 UMAS (10,440 pesos). Furthermore, Sterling mentioned the «Bloquers» incubation program, which supported 1,660 projects in 2025, 56% of which were led by women. The main sectors for these projects included technology, retail, ed-tech, health-tech, human resources, and manufacturing.
