In mid-July, the aid received regarding the Special Tax on Production and Services (IEPS) was 5.5 percent. However, for this week, due to the absence of fiscal stimuli, the payment of IEPS for gasoline will be 6.7 pesos. But what exactly are the fiscal stimuli for gasoline?
Fiscal stimuli are a mechanism that the government uses to avoid what are known as 'gasolinazos', offering relief on costs for drivers by reducing the amount of IEPS. Every week, the percentage of fiscal stimulus corresponding to each type of fuel is announced, although at times the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit opts to eliminate them if it considers that prices remain stable.
In the particular case of this week, the SHCP has left fuels without support, as reported in the Official Journal of the Federation. This measure will come into effect starting next Saturday, October 26, being effective only during the last week of the month.
Regular gasoline, for example, will stop having fiscal stimuli starting Saturday, maintaining a support percentage of 4.3 percent until Friday. The IEPS for this type of fuel will be set at 6.17 pesos during the next week.
On the other hand, Premium gasoline has gone a year without receiving fiscal stimuli, with the last time being October 30, 2023. Since then, the support percentage has been absent for this type of fuel.
This week, once again, regular gasoline is left without fiscal stimuli, with an IEPS fixed at 5.21 pesos. As for diesel, three months have passed since the last time the Treasury applied this type of aid for the tax.
