The gasoline production at the new Dos Bocas refinery reached 1.5 thousand barrels per day in September, marking a significant decrease of 85% compared to the previous month, according to the monthly report from Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex).
In August, the refinery located in the port of Dos Bocas, Tabasco, had managed to produce 10.6 thousand barrels per day of gasoline. However, during September, the production was mainly limited to regular gasoline UBA, a type of fuel with low sulfur content that complies with environmental regulations to reduce pollutant emissions.
The Olmeca refinery also experienced a setback in the production of UBA diesel, reaching only 3.5 thousand barrels per day in September, representing a monthly drop of 87.6%. On the other hand, Dos Bocas managed to produce 8.4 thousand barrels per day of petcoke, a byproduct obtained during the refining and distillation process of coal or oil, which showed an 11.3% decrease compared to the previous month.
It is important to mention that the Olmeca refinery did not process crude oil barrels during September, while in July and August it had refined 65.4 and 84.1 thousand barrels per day respectively, indicating that the plant is still in the testing phase, according to Ramsés Pech, partner at Caraiva and Asociados-León & Pech Architects.
In a conference with investors, Víctor Rodríguez Padilla, general director of Pemex, announced that they are developing a plan for operational efficiency and cost reduction aimed at increasing crude processing and improving gasoline and jet fuel production to generate higher revenues. The second train of the Dos Bocas refinery is expected to be operational in the short term to achieve an optimal functioning level in a safe and reliable manner, according to Rodríguez Padilla.
