The Mexican peso is trading above 20 pesos per dollar, its highest level since September 2022. The market is processing the latest economic reports from Mexico and the U.S.


Mexican Peso Continues Its Upward Trend

The dollar is quoted above 20 pesos in Mexico for the fourth consecutive session, reflecting an upward trend, according to Gabriela Siller, director of economic analysis at Banco Base. In banks, the dollar is sold at 20.61 pesos and bought at 19.43 pesos. The dollar index (dxy) rises to 104.18 points, while the Bloomberg dollar index (bbdxy) falls to 1,261.03 points. In the international arena, the money market shows a yield of 4.31 percent for the 10-year U.S. bond and 10.41 percent for the 10-year Mexican bond.

The Colombian peso, Czech koruna, Japanese yen, Polish zloty, and British pound are some of the most appreciated currencies currently. As for the Mexican peso, it has opened with gains against the dollar, reaching its highest level since September 2022. It has experienced an appreciation of 0.56 percent, with an exchange rate of 20.04 units, decreasing by 12 cents compared to the previous close.

"Despite being the most appreciated currency in the session, the peso remains above the psychological level of 20 pesos per dollar," comments Bloomberg. Market participants are adjusting their positions following the recent economic data reports from Mexico and the United States.
