The site comerciodemexico.mx has generated controversy by offering products at prices considerably lower than official stores, furniture stores, and department chains, including furniture and video games. However, behind this wide offer lies a disappointing reality: it is a scam.
Customers have reported that once the transfer is made through the site, comercio de México stops responding to emails and the provided phone numbers turn out to be nonexistent. The only means of communication offered is an email that, once payment is made, also stops receiving responses.
One of the main warning signs on comerciodemexico.mx is the lack of transparent information about the company behind the platform. José Flores, director of communication for the Network in Defense of Digital Rights, mentioned that this type of fraudulent platform tends to follow a similar pattern, attracting victims with products at tempting prices and presenting themselves as trustworthy sites.
According to Condusef, complaints related to this type of fraud increased by 20.1% towards the end of 2023. Although Comercio de México displays a wide range of technological products from recognized brands and other items like furniture, appliances, clothing, and footwear on its website, since 2022 the portal Apestan.com has recorded at least three reports of scams by consumers who made payments without receiving the purchased products.
One affected person mentioned losing 110 pesos, while others have reported scams of up to 15,000 pesos. When seeking answers, Profeco informed that they had no records or complaints against the company in question. The company's lack of response, the absence of a physical location for claims, return policies, the insecure domain without "https://" and the lack of security measures such as a closed padlock or Privacy Notice are some of the warning signs that highlight the fraudulent nature of comerciodemexico.mx. Moreover, the company does not display its physical address in Mexico nor offers phone numbers for contact.
