Arkadas, a German shepherd donated by Turkey to Mexico in 2023, officially graduated as a soldier of the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena) during the Perrotón 2025, held at Military Camp No. 1 in the State of Mexico. This canine specialized in search and rescue demonstrated its worth after a year and a half of hard training and is ready to assist in rescue operations in cases of natural disasters.
Arkadas arrived in Mexico in May 2023, replacing Proteo, a Belgian shepherd who passed away in Turkey during a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that same year. The Turkish government decided to express its gratitude for Mexico's humanitarian aid by sending Arkadas, one of its most promising service dogs.
During Perrotón 2025, where 16 canine teams participated, Arkadas received his badge as an official member of the Mexican Armed Forces. In an emotional ceremony, the canine, whose name means "friend," was promoted and is now part of the Mexican Army, ready to carry out search and rescue tasks for the benefit of society.
The event allowed the families present to observe up close the training of the Sedena service animals, including guard, protection, rescue, and drug search exercises. The canine teams demonstrated their dedication and skills, highlighting the important role they play in ensuring national security.
