The third Monday in March has been chosen as the date to celebrate the school holiday in Mexico, despite traditionally being commemorated on March 21. This decision was made to allow students and workers to enjoy a long three-day weekend.
The first holiday, which will take place on Friday, March 21, is related to the grading registration day, during which teachers carry out administrative processes and evaluations without the presence of students. On the other hand, Friday, March 28 coincides with the meeting of the School Technical Council (CTE), where teachers and administrators analyze proposals to improve the educational process.
It is important to mention that of the mentioned dates, only Monday, March 17 is a mandatory holiday for workers, according to Article 74 of the Federal Labor Law. The days March 21 and 28 will only apply to elementary education students, as they are administrative activities within the SEP calendar.
Regarding the Holy Week holidays in 2025, according to the 2024-2025 school calendar of the Ministry of Public Education, basic education students in Mexico will have their break from Monday, April 14 to Friday, April 25, 2025. It is essential to know the exact dates of these days off and plan the holiday period in advance.
Monday, March 17 is an official holiday due to the commemoration of the birth of Benito Juárez. Therefore, Friday, April 11 will be the last day of classes before the break, and school activities will resume on Monday, April 28. March will have three long weekends that both students and workers can take advantage of to rest or plan a family trip.
