On Wednesday, an armed man shot at the facade of a Banco del Bienestar branch in the eastern sector of Ciudad Delicias, Chihuahua. The incident occurred near noon at the intersection of Calle Tercera and Avenida Agricultura. The man went to the branch to cash a government social program. However, after being informed that he could not make the withdrawal or the funds were unavailable, he began to insult the employees. Witnesses stated that the subject left the building visibly upset but returned minutes later armed with a firearm. Without a word, he fired directly at the main entrance of the bank, causing panic among users and workers. The projectile hit the security glass of the access door; however, the bulletproof glass prevented the bullet from penetrating the building. This avoided injuries, as at that moment there were several users inside, mostly elderly people conducting transactions. Authorities confirmed that no one was injured by gunfire, although some people suffered nervous breakdowns and were treated by paramedics at the scene. Following the attack, Municipal Police and the State Investigation Agency (AEI) deployed an operation in the area to find the perpetrator. An intense police mobilization was registered, although the aggressor managed to evade the initial cordon. The search extended to nearby colonies, aided by physical descriptions obtained from surveillance cameras of the C7 system and the bank itself. The State Attorney's Office (FGE) initiated an investigation for the crimes of attempted homicide and property damage. As of the close of this edition, the suspect remains at large; however, authorities stated they have solid leads for his identification and capture. The branch remained closed for the rest of the day to facilitate the forensic work.
