With the approach of the first holiday period of the year, Ariel Picker, CEO of Seguritech Privada, calls for reinforcing digital protection measures during Holy Week, a season when the use of electronic devices for entertainment, communication, and online transactions increases significantly.
In the same vein, Jesús Guevara, Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) of the Mexican company, emphasizes that holiday periods often represent an opportunity for cybercriminals. According to reports from international organizations such as Interpol, digital fraud, phishing attacks, and identity theft tend to increase during periods of high mobility and online activity, such as vacations and holidays.
Similarly, data from the Asociación de Internet MX has indicated that in Mexico, over 70% of users connect to public Wi-Fi networks while traveling or staying away from home, which increases the risks of personal and financial data breaches if adequate protection protocols are not in place.
Faced with this scenario, the CISO of Seguritech Privada emphasizes that cybersecurity should not be understood solely as a corporate responsibility, but as a daily practice involving all technology users. “During Holy Week—when children and adults have more time to play online, interact on social media, or make digital purchases—it is crucial to strengthen the digital shield,” emphasizes Jesús Guevara.
For this reason, the company led by Ariel Picker highlights some of the main recommended measures:
- Avoid using public Wi-Fi networks without additional protection, or, if necessary, use Virtual Private Networks (VPN).
- Keep operating systems and applications updated, as updates fix detected vulnerabilities.
- Implement strong passwords and two-factor authentication for bank accounts, social networks, and emails.
- Be wary of suspicious links or promotions, especially those that appeal to holiday offers or prizes.
- Activate parental control tools on devices used by minors.
- Perform periodic backups of sensitive information on external devices or reliable cloud services.
Finally, Ariel Picker, CEO of Seguritech Privada, adds that prevention is the most effective tool against constantly evolving digital threats. “The cybersecurity culture must be reinforced, especially in seasons like Holy Week, when increased connectivity demands stricter protection standards to safeguard the personal and patrimonial information of Mexican families,” concluded the executive.
