Increase in Home Accidents During Easter Holidays

During Easter holidays, home accidents—such as burns or poisoning in children—increase by 40%, according to data from the Government of the State of Mexico. Therefore, authorities have issued an alert for parents to be attentive to their children and reduce these types of incidents. The increase is related to a longer stay at home, especially of girls, boys, and older adults, who become the most vulnerable groups to this type of incident. What are the most common accidents? The state Secretariat of Health detailed that the most frequent cases at home during this season include burns from hot liquids, falls, poisonings from medicines or cleaning products, and injuries caused by sharp objects. These situations, in many cases, are related to carelessness or lack of supervision during daily activities. Call to reinforce measures at home In this context, authorities called on mothers, fathers, and caregivers to take extreme precautions at home. Among the main recommendations are to keep floors dry, prevent children from entering the kitchen while food is being prepared, and store hazardous substances out of their reach. They also insist on supervising the use of toys and preventing risky activities in areas such as stairs. The risk is not limited to the home. During this period, mobility on roads and recreational spaces also increases, raising the likelihood of traffic accidents. Therefore, authorities recommend checking vehicle conditions, respecting speed limits, using seat belts, and avoiding driving under the influence of alcohol or fatigue. Meanwhile, in case of an emergency or any other risk situation, the public must call the emergency number 911 to receive timely attention.
