The skincare and self-care culture is booming in Mexico, with sunscreen purchases growing by 13.10% in 2025, making skincare part of the basic basket for Mexican households, according to statistics from the Chamber of the Cosmetic Products Industry (Canipec). Now, it is common to see a facial cleanser, a moisturizer, and a sunscreen on the vanities in bedrooms, as well as fragrances, a product that also recorded a positive purchase increase of 11.9%. In an interview with Publimetro, the General Director of Canipec, Rosa María Sánchez Maldonado, celebrated the interest of Mexicans in skin self-care, mainly from Generation Z and Alpha, while also asking them not to fall for offers of sunscreen or skincare that appear on social networks, as these products could be 'pirated'. 'In the digital space, you should pay attention to the price and who is selling it, that is the most important thing. This means there is no guarantee about its ingredients or concentrations,' commented Sánchez Maldonado. Likewise, the expert in the cosmetic industry warned that the use of serum and hyaluronic acid in girls aged 12 to 17 is not recommended, as while these products provide adult benefits, they could affect the skin of minors. 'We need to be clear that even a baby should have a skincare routine, but the products and ingredients should change according to age. It is totally true, and I think it has a very positive side, because from a very young age we are very aware that we need to take care of our skin,' said Rosa María Sánchez Maldonado, General Director of CANIPEC. If it is open, damaged, or without clear information, it is a suspicious product.
