Mexico Approves Updated COVID-19 Vaccine

The Federal Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks has approved a new version of the COVID-19 vaccine, recommended for the JN.1 lineage. This decision is made in response to the increase in reported cases worldwide.

In Mexico, the Ministry of Health has documented a total of 13,807 COVID-19 cases to date. Juan Luis Morell, General Director of Pfizer Mexico, expressed pride in contributing to the well-being of Mexicans with the new authorization for the marketing of an updated version of the vaccine against the virus.

"Since we launched the first COVID vaccine during the pandemic, we have maintained our commitment to controlling this disease," emphasized Morell. The new formulation of the vaccine has been recommended for the JN.1 lineage and has received approval from Cofepris in Mexico, following the consensus of the Advisory Committee on Vaccines and Related Biological Products of the FDA of the United States.

The approval of this vaccine update comes at a crucial time, as an increase in COVID-19 cases has been observed globally. According to the Global Flu Surveillance and Response System (GFARS), the percentage of cases has risen from 7.4% to 13% in 85 countries.

The Federal Commission for Protection against Sanitary Risks (Cofepris) has recognized innovative advances in vaccine development, which allows for new tools to prevent diseases that pose a threat to public health. It is recommended to consult a doctor for more information on vaccination schemes and to protect against the virus.
