Mother of Influencer Fofo Márquez Demands Fair Trial

Fofo Márquez, a well-known influencer, has been detained at the Barrientos Penitentiary in the State of Mexico since April 2024, after being linked to a process for assaulting a woman in public. The assault has been categorized as attempted feminicide and personal injury, resulting in his preventive imprisonment.

Fofo Márquez's mother came to his defense, calling for a "fair sentence" for him. In an interview, Mrs. Xóchitl mentioned that perhaps she made mistakes by not being strict enough with Fofo, and spoke about the difficulty of his behavior since childhood, which led them to seek help from psychologists and therapists.

The influencer's mother also defended her son against the victim's refusal to accept an apology, and requested that Fofo Márquez be judged for the correct crime of personal injury, rather than for attempted feminicide. She argued that people guilty of more serious crimes receive lesser sentences compared to what her son would face.

Xóchitl explained that Fofo Márquez created a character for his social media and that in real life he acts differently. While she does not justify the violence, she mentioned that her son found in controversy a way to increase his audience and monetize his content.

Regarding legal consequences, Fofo Márquez rejected a plea bargain that would allow him to accept the charges against him. If he is found guilty, he could face up to 48 years in prison for attempted feminicide.
