Fernández emphasized the importance of acting prudently in response to Trump's comments and waiting for them to be formally documented.
Regarding Trump's statements about increasing tariffs and introducing agendas that are not related to the USMCA, the senator mentioned that it is necessary to maintain calm and prudence. He stressed that the current treaty was endorsed by Trump himself in 2019, so he trusts that a good outcome will be achieved in the review.
Fernández highlighted the importance of working towards a common goal in the upcoming review and emphasized that there is no authority from any of the three countries, neither from the Legislative nor from the business sector, that considers the USMCA to be disadvantageous for the involved nations. The senator stated that at the core, there are no signs that the treaty is unfavorable for the signing countries.
In relation to issues of migration and tariffs, Fernández expressed that there is an atmosphere of calm and prudence at the national coordination level and within the industry. He affirmed that they are already engaged in the discussion of the USMCA, even though it has just formally begun. The senator also mentioned that he has established contact with allied congress members in the United States and with the Canadian consulate during his tour in the country.
In his latest statements, Fernández emphasized that it is crucial to maintain calm and prudence in the current situation. He highlighted that active work is being done on the review of the treaty and that there is a willingness from the private sector to participate in this process.
