Federal lawmakers from Morena who are part of the Finance and Budget Committees of the Chamber of Deputies stated that the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum has sufficient resources to address the issue of mass deportations of migrants.
According to Deputy and Secretary of the Finance Committee, Carol Antonio Altamirano, the Executive has at least four alternatives to tackle the migration crisis based on the 2025 Federal Expenditure Budget and the Federal Budget and Fiscal Responsibility Law.
To address the situation of mass deportations, one option would be to adjust the budgetary calendar, anticipating spending aimed at renting buses, setting up shelters for migrants, or providing support through various entities such as the Army, the Ministry of the Interior, Welfare or the National Migration Institute.
There is a possibility of using part of the resources allocated to the Ministry of the Interior or to the Ministry of National Defense, among other agencies, in advance to cope with the occurrence of migration events.
Secondly, the option of making internal budgetary reallocations is mentioned, allowing funds to be redirected within the agencies themselves, always notifying the Ministry of Finance to maintain transparency in the process.
Likewise, if more significant budgetary modifications are required, such as increasing personnel, the agencies can request authorization from the Ministry of Finance.
Finally, if the budgetary adjustments exceed the 5 percent allocated to the corresponding agency's budget, this information must be collected and reported in quarterly reports, so that the Budget and Public Accounts Committee can evaluate and issue an opinion on the matter.
The President of the Budget Committee, Merilyn Gómez, supported the possibility of making adjustments to the 2025 Federal Expenditure Budget to address the migration crisis, leaving the executive responsibility in the hands of President Claudia Sheinbaum and the Ministry of Finance.
