In Nuevo León, the installation of the Governing Board of the Council to Prevent and Eliminate Discrimination (Coprednl) took place with the aim of advancing towards a fairer society where all people are respected. Martha Herrera, Secretary of Equality and Inclusion, participated as a special guest at the event and emphasized the commitment to work to ensure that all people have equal opportunities through public policies that promote equality and penalize discrimination.

In Herrera's words: “The installation of this council is a tribute to your struggle, to your perseverance, to your diligence, which makes it possible for today to have this organization, but I have definitely said it from the heart, I applaud the struggle that you and your predecessors have had over all these years so that today we have the progress we have made, because we cannot say that we start from zero.”

During the first session, Sofía Velasco Becerra, President of the Council, took the oath of the representatives of authorities and civil society that are part of the Governing Board of Coprednl. The Secretary of Equality and Inclusion celebrated the realization of this Council, highlighting that its formation responds to a commitment from the Secretariat through the participatory agendas developed by the Commission for Equality and Non-Discrimination.

The Coprednl, as an autonomous and decentralized body, represents a significant advance in the promotion of equality and the fight against discrimination. It acts as a plural institution for consultation, advice, linking, and evaluation between the government and the people of Nuevo León. Among its responsibilities is the reception, integration, and resolution of complaints regarding alleged acts, omissions, or discriminatory practices.

The installation of the Governing Board of the Council in Nuevo León is part of compliance with the Law to Prevent and Eliminate Discrimination in the state, approved on May 17, 2017, by the local Congress.
