Senate Announces Insaculation Process for Judiciary Candidates

The Senate has announced that it will carry out the process of drawing lots this Thursday to determine the candidacies for the election of the Judiciary in June 2025. The issued agreement establishes that the draw will take place on January 30 at 12:00 PM in the session hall under the responsibility of the Board of Directors. The guidelines for the drawing include several lists, such as those of magistrates and judges participating in the election, the names of eligible candidates, and a list of individuals determined by the Superior Chamber of the Electoral Tribunal.

The drawing will only be carried out for positions with more candidates than necessary, directly moving the remaining cases to the ballot. The drawing will be public and transparent, broadcasted by the Congress Channel and digital platforms, with the presence of a public notary. The criteria for gender parity and specialization will be respected at all times.

In the Senate session, two ballot boxes with numbered spheres will be placed at the presidium. The drawing will follow a specific order, starting with the District Judges and concluding with the Ministers of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation. Each step of the procedure will be explained in detail, demonstrating the transparency of the process.

Once all the drawings are completed, the list of drawn candidates will be formed and published in the Official Journal of the Federation and on the Senate's website. These lists will be sent to the Plenary of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation for approval. Finally, they will be sent to the National Electoral Institute to continue with the elective process. The candidacies put forward by the Judiciary will be those listed in the final list.
