García Harfuch Discusses Security Strategy Amid Tensions

Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch highlighted the importance of collaborating with federal entities in the fight against insecurity and organized crime. In a presentation on Friday, García Harfuch reported on the progress of his strategy and the next steps to follow, including foreign supervision by the President of the United States, Donald Trump.

García Harfuch mentioned that his secretary's office is working on two main fronts: addressing the causes that lead to illegal activities and apprehending criminals. He emphasized that dialogue with criminal organizations is not contemplated, as it is always counterproductive. This position was presented to the ruling party bench in San Lázaro.

Since Claudia Sheinbaum took office, greater powers have been granted to the Security Secretary to tackle violence. Actions are being implemented to address the causes of crime and carry out strong operations against those responsible for violent acts affecting the country.

García Harfuch stressed the need for coordination among his Secretary’s office, local authorities, the Judiciary, and Prosecutor’s Offices to combat criminal organizations that generate violence and corruption in Mexico. The possibility of establishing dialogues with criminal groups during the current administration was dismissed.

Amid pressure for better results in the fight against drug trafficking, García Harfuch participated in the plenary session of Morena in San Lázaro. The importance of apprehending those responsible for crimes to reduce criminality in the country was emphasized, where 80% of crimes fall under common jurisdiction.
