Journalist Jesús Esquivel, on the program 'Aristegui en Vivo', mentioned that the pressures from business sectors in the United States, especially those in agricultural finance, played a crucial role in the decision to delay tariffs on Mexico by 30 days, following the agreement reached between the two countries.
In this sense, Esquivel highlighted that the omissions in the speeches of the Mexican and American presidents, Sheinbaum and Trump respectively, have been significant. He pointed out that militarization at the northern border with the National Guard only intensifies the situation already established since López Obrador's government.
The journalist also addressed Trump's rhetoric about accusing Mexico of collaborating with drug cartels, considering it more of a political strategy than a real action against drug trafficking. Esquivel criticized the simplification of labeling cartels as terrorist organizations, as it does not address the underlying causes nor offer effective solutions to the problem.
Esquivel emphasized that applying the label of terrorist organizations to cartels could be counterproductive and highlighted the lack of consistency between Trump's incendiary statements and the actual policies implemented. He also underlined that narcocorruption in Mexico is a phenomenon widespread at all levels, from federal to municipal.
