Controversy Surrounds Judicial Election in Mexico

The President of the Senate of Mexico criticized the actions of the Judiciary and its members, calling them 'grotesque'. On Monday, January 27, Senators Adán Augusto López Hernández and Fernández Noroña attacked the former members of the Judiciary Evaluation Committee, who resigned.

Adán Augusto expressed that the resignation was not genuine, implying that they were following instructions from some ministers. The Senate held a lottery on Friday, January 31, to select candidates for the judicial election. The mayor cited the lack of respect from the Court towards the June judicial election.

He emphasized the importance of mutual respect among the branches of government and the need to adhere to the Constitution. In response to accusations of imposing key candidates, he denied such actions and criticized the magistrates for not complying with the Constitution.

Gerardo Fernández Noroña confirmed the candidate selection process through lottery and criticized both the Evaluating Committee and the President Minister of the Supreme Court. He disqualified their resignation and their lack of word, accusing them of opposing the judicial election because they consider themselves superior to the branches of government.

Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed that she will not invite the President of the SCJN to the ceremony of the 108th anniversary of the 1917 Constitution, stating that the Court is not included in the guest list.
