The Attorney General's Office of the State of Tabasco confirmed that seven people died after a riot at the Tabasco Social Rehabilitation Center (CRESET). It was reported that coordination is being made with the Security Table of Tabasco to address the situation that occurred on Tuesday morning at the Villahermosa penitentiary.
According to preliminary reports, the disturbance among inmates began around 11:00 hours in module 2 of the prison, where there was apparently a confrontation between rival gangs. It was indicated that part of the inmates attempted to protect a man known as 'El Coki'. There were reports of gunfire at the scene, but this information has not been officially confirmed.
An ambulance arrived at the penitentiary, and it was reported that the head of the National Guard in Tabasco, Ignacio Murillo, also arrived on site to provide a preliminary report on the situation.
Meanwhile, relatives of the inmates blocked the Frontera-Villahermosa federal highway demanding information from the authorities about the status of their loved ones. In videos shared on social media, personnel from the Judicial Branch of Tabasco can be seen running to get away from their offices and avoid exposure to the risky situation.
So far, the number of injured persons resulting from the violent incident at the penitentiary has not been disclosed.
