Constitutional lawyer Francisco Burgoa expressed his concern about the manipulation in the drawing process to select candidates in the judicial election of judges, magistrates, and ministers. Burgoa pointed out that opacity has surrounded the Evaluation Committees and questioned the impartiality of the criteria used to determine the suitability of the selected individuals. He emphasized that transparency was a guarantee of the constitutional reform, which, in his opinion, has not been fulfilled.
Regarding the Constituent Assembly, Burgoa denounced that names of individuals reportedly close to former minister Arturo Zaldívar, who is part of the evaluation committee and the cabinet of President Claudia Sheinbaum, have been disclosed. The lawyer stated that the intention behind this manipulation is to control the Federal Judiciary, which he considers an unacceptable objective.
In another context, Burgoa criticized the exclusion of the president minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, Norma Piña, from the commemorative event of the constitution. For the lawyer, this situation turns the ceremony into a partisan and exclusionary act, instead of promoting inclusion and diversity.
The constitutional lawyer also emphasized the non-compliance with the procedures established in the law, such as the presentation of 90 candidates by the Evaluation Committee, a requirement that was not met, as only 39 profiles were presented. Burgoa expressed his concern over the arbitrary reduction of the number of candidates and the possible inclusion of profiles favorable to the ruling party, to the detriment of the diversity and impartiality that should govern such processes.
