The president of the Senate's board of directors of the Republic, Gerardo Fernández Noroña, praised Mexico's president, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, whom he described as an incorruptible leader and defender of national sovereignty. Noroña called for national unity and asserted that Mexico will never allow the presence of fascism, classism, or racism in the country.
During a commemorative event on February 5, Sheinbaum accused the Supreme Court of 'overstepping' the electoral process for judicial magistrates scheduled for June. For this reason, the president decided not to invite the Court's ministers to the ceremony. However, three female ministers aligned with the Morena government attended.
Noroña highlighted the constitutional changes and secondary laws passed by the Mexican Congress, emphasizing that in 2025 Mexico will be the first country to elect judges and magistrates by popular vote. He stated that the Fourth Transformation has allowed these changes, in contrast to previous governments.
The legislator also criticized the Supreme Court's stance in obstructing the 2025 election process, reaffirming that in Mexico, it is the people who hold the power. President Sheinbaum has stressed the importance of respecting the separation of powers and the sovereign power of the people.
Amid these tensions, Supreme Court minister Javier Laynez lamented that the Court was excluded from the commemorative event. Fernández Noroña accused neoliberal governments of disrespecting the Constitution, marking a clear difference with the current Mexican administration.
